Praxus

Praxus is a location that exists because of a toy bio. Bluestreak's 1984 packaging and his Marvel Universe profile state that his home city was wiped out by the Decepticons and that he was the only survivor, which is why the chattiest Autobot in the lineup talks constantly: he is a trauma case, and the tech spec says so in about fifteen words. The city was not given a name at the time.

The name Praxus was attached later, by writer Scott Ciencin in the prose story Hardwired, and it stuck so thoroughly that most fans assume it is original G1 material. From there it propagated through Dreamwave, IDW and the games, becoming the standard home city of the door-winged Transformers, Prowl and Smokescreen included, on the strength of shared design cues rather than anything stated in G1 itself.

What Praxus contributes to a G1 locations section is a demonstration of how the fiction actually grew. A single line of toy copy about a destroyed city produced, over twenty years, a named polity with an architectural style and a diaspora. Nothing about Praxus appears in the cartoon or the Marvel comic; its entire substance is the survivor's guilt written on the back of a 1984 blister card.

• Praxus is not named in any 1980s Transformers fiction. The name is a 2003 addition retrofitted onto a 1984 tech spec.
• Bluestreak's compulsive talking is explicitly framed in his bio as a response to the destruction of his city, one of the earliest pieces of characterisation the brand ever printed.
• The Praxian door-wing design association is fan-derived from Prowl, Bluestreak and Smokescreen sharing a toy mould, then written back into the fiction.
• Bluestreak's UK and US bios differ slightly in how they phrase the massacre, which is why the survivor detail is sometimes disputed.
