Every Optimus Prime, ranked: which continuity got him right

G1, Beast, the live-action films, Prime, the Energon Universe. The Matrix bearer wears a lot of faces. We weigh them.

Optimus Prime is the one constant across forty years of Transformers, and yet almost every continuity reinterprets him. The fun of ranking them is that there is no wrong answer, only the version that imprinted on you first.

The G1 Prime sets the template: noble to a fault, willing to die for the smallest life, voiced into legend by Peter Cullen. The Beast Wars Optimus Primal earns his place by carrying the spirit forward in a new body. The live-action films give us a harder, more warlike Prime that divides the fandom. Aligned-continuity Prime, from the Prime cartoon, splits the difference with genuine warmth.

The newest contender is the Energon Universe Prime, rebuilt for a comics audience that wanted weight and consequence. Wherever you land, the argument itself is the point, and it is exactly the kind of thing the forum was built for.
