What is confirmed
At CinemaCon in April 2026, Paramount executives Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein confirmed on stage that a new Transformers movie is in the works, alongside a new G.I. Joe movie (The Direct's CinemaCon coverage, Tformers).
In June 2026, Paramount hired Jason Fuchs, co-creator and showrunner of It: Welcome to Derry, to write the script for the next Transformers movie (TheWrap, exclusive). The producing team carries over the franchise's core names: Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto and Don Murphy, with Steven Spielberg and Hasbro executive producing (ScreenRant).
The Fuchs project is reported to continue the storyline of 2023's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the most recent live-action entry (MovieWeb).
Updated October 6, 2026. Deadline reported that Spielberg has been given a primary creative producer role on the next Transformers movie, with oversight of the property's creative direction, and that Michael Bay is in early talks to direct it. TheWrap, reporting the same morning, describes Spielberg as executive producer overseeing the creative direction of the property alongside Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and has Bay in talks to return and direct the next instalment (Deadline, TheWrap). The crossover
Updated October 2, 2026: the crossover is reported to be no longer in development. Deadline's report casting Bradley Cooper as Duke in Danny McBride's G.I. Joe film says that picture will be uncoupled from a previous crossover film with Transformers that is no longer in development. Neither Paramount nor Hasbro Entertainment has said anything further (our report). The rest of this section is the record of the project as it stood before that.
A Transformers x G.I. Joe crossover movie was in development from 2023. The tease was right there on screen: Rise of the Beasts ends with Noah Diaz being recruited into G.I. Joe, a scene built specifically to set the two Hasbro franchises on a collision course (ScreenRant's crossover tracker).
Before the October 2026 reporting, Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. had said the crossover was still in development, while cautioning that it will not necessarily be the very next film in the franchise (ScreenRant). With Paramount confirming separate Transformers and G.I. Joe films at CinemaCon 2026, the crossover now sits alongside two solo projects rather than replacing them.

Two separate scripts, two separate writers:
Jason Fuchs is writing the untitled mainline Transformers movie. His credits include Ice Age: Continental Drift, Pan and Argylle, and he is a co-creator of HBO's It: Welcome to Derry (TheWrap).
Derek Connolly, the Jurassic World and Detective Pikachu co-writer, was hired in June 2024 to write the Transformers x G.I. Joe crossover (The Hollywood Reporter). THR's report also said the crossover project was set up with Chris Hemsworth attached to star; treat casting as unconfirmed until Paramount says so.
The timeline since Rise of the Beasts
June 2023. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts closes with Noah Diaz recruited by G.I. Joe, the franchise's first on-screen bridge between the two properties.
June 2024. Derek Connolly signs to write the crossover script (THR).
September 2024. Transformers One, the animated Cybertron origin story, reaches theaters as the franchise's only release between live-action entries.
April 2026. Paramount confirms at CinemaCon that a new Transformers movie and a new G.I. Joe movie are both in development (The Direct).
June 2026. Jason Fuchs is hired to write the next Transformers movie (TheWrap).
October 2, 2026. Deadline's G.I. Joe casting report says the Transformers crossover is no longer in development (our report).
October 6, 2026. Spielberg is given creative oversight of the property and Bay enters early talks to direct, on the same day Paramount closed its Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition and became Skydance Corp. (our report).
Today. No cast, no title, no date, and no director signed. Spielberg is attached, Fuchs has written a script, and Bay is in talks. That is the honest state of play.
What is NOT confirmed
No release date has been announced for either project. Any specific year you see attached to "Transformers 8" is speculation, not Paramount (ScreenRant's franchise tracker).
Also unconfirmed: the title, the director, the cast, whether the crossover or the solo film shoots first, and any plot detail beyond "continues the Rise of the Beasts storyline."
A warning about "trailers." The viral "Transformers 2025," "2026" and "2027" trailers circulating on YouTube and social media are AI-generated fan videos, not official footage. Several of the channels mass-producing these fake trailers, including Screen Culture and KH Studio, were terminated by YouTube for exactly this (Deadline; ComingSoon's debunk). No official trailer exists because nothing has been filmed. When a real one drops, it will be on Paramount's own channels, and on this page.

When is the next Transformers movie coming out? There is no confirmed release date. Paramount has only confirmed that the film is in development with a writer attached.
Is there a trailer? No. Every "trailer" currently circulating is an AI-generated fake. Nothing has been filmed.
Is the next movie the G.I. Joe crossover? No. As of October 2026 the crossover is reported to be no longer in development, and the mainline Transformers film is the only live-action entry anybody is working on.
Is it a sequel to Rise of the Beasts? Reports say the Jason Fuchs script continues the Rise of the Beasts storyline, which ended with Noah Diaz joining G.I. Joe.
