Most combiners arrive one box at a time, and the combined mode stays out of reach until every one of those boxes has been bought. Takara Tomy is selling this one the other way round. WKS-05 comes as a single order, Optimus and his Energy Beasts together, in a finish none of them has been sold in before, so nothing about the combined robot is waiting on a later release.

Takara Tomy Mall lists it as the Transformers Wild King WKS-05 Optimus Link Prime and five Energy Beasts Wild-Docking Set, and sells it nowhere else. The price is 19,800 yen including tax, or about 125 US dollars at this week’s rate. Delivery is late March 2027. The order book closes on 11 November [2].

The money here is going on the colour. Takara’s own art labels the five Energy Beasts a clear-colour version and Optimus a special-colour version. Both of those phrases mean repaint, of figures the Wild King line has already put out. Bought one at a time in their standard decos, the combined robot is a sensible red and blue torso wearing five opaque animals. Bought as the set, the same engineering arrives with its limbs and its backpack in translucent yellow, blue, red, orange and green, and on a shelf it looks like one object instead of six. It is a much sillier toy this way, and much the better for it!

The five are Lightlong, Hydrophant, Ignite Leo, Drillnohorn and Skyreport, and each of them has three modes: an animal, then a small robot, then a component that Wild-Docks onto Optimus. Takara’s own parts list for the set names a giraffe head, an elephant head, a lion head, a rhino head and an eagle head, but it never says which head belongs to which name [1].

The set is not quite new to us. It sat under glass at the 64th All Japan Model Hobby Show in Tokyo a week ago, in the same case as the Masterpiece G Megatron and the Arcee whose numbering nobody in the English coverage could agree on, and its card printed a delivery date where the Megatron and Arcee cards beside it printed none. What the show did not give us was the close of the order window [3].

Takara Tomy Mall is a Japanese domestic store, and most of the people reading this are not in Japan. There is no American listing to fall back on. BigBadToyStore does not stock Wild King at all: a search of their catalogue this morning returned nine products and every one of them was Witcher, Zelda, Zootopia or DC [4]. When Yolopark’s Sentinel Prime came up two days ago the brand was at least already on their shelves, and Wild King is not on them at all. Ordering from outside Japan means a forwarding service and the usual import costs on top, but if a US retailer does pick the set up this page will say so.

Which leaves the sentence near the bottom of the listing. Takara says that sales after the order period ends are, as of now, undecided, and the page gives no edition size and no promise that this is anyone’s last chance. The date is the only firm thing on the page.

  1. The listing never pairs a beast with its animal mode. BWTF’s review of the original Lightlong calls it a robotic giraffe, so that one is settled; we are not guessing at the other four on the strength of a name.
  2. The window runs from 2 October 2026 at 00:00 to 11 November 2026 at 23:59, Japan time. The store also holds each customer to three sets and says it cancels orders of four or more.
  3. Our 3 October piece noted the card in the case printed late March 2027 and that it matched the window Takara Tomy Mall had opened the day before. The listing still says late March 2027, so for once the show card and the shop agree.
  4. BigBadToyStore search for “wild king”, read 11 October 2026: nine results, none of them Transformers.
