The Transformers: The Movie turns forty this year, and Shout! Factory is marking it on disc. A 40th Anniversary Edition DVD of the 1986 animated film is open for pre-order now, with an October 13, 2026 street date.

Amazon has it at $19.98 as a pre-order, listed under ASIN B0H8C6R535 with Shout! Factory as the studio and an October 13 release date. Shout!‘s own listing fills in the rest of the spec: catalogue number 1000863899, UPC 826663269864, a single disc, Region 1, rated PG, running 85 minutes.

The extras are the story

Early coverage of the announcement read the 85 minute runtime as a sign that this is a bare-bones reissue. The retail listing says otherwise. The 40th Anniversary Edition carries the legacy bonus package that collectors will recognise from previous Shout! releases:

  • Audio commentary with director Nelson Shin, story editor Flint Dille and star Susan Blu
  • ‘Til All Are One, the feature-length retrospective documentary, with Dille, Gregg Berger, Susan Blu, Neil Ross, Dan Gilvezan, Stan Bush and Vince DiCola among the participants
  • The archival featurettes Death of Optimus Prime, Cast and Characters, and Transformers Q&A
  • Animated storyboards
  • Theatrical trailers and TV spots

What the listing does not show is anything new. The 85 minute running time matches the theatrical cut, and neither the packaging nor the product data mentions the all-new post-credits chapter that Hasbro and Fathom Entertainment created for the film’s 4K theatrical return in September. On the evidence available, that scene stays a cinema exclusive for now.

No Blu-ray or 4K yet

Only the DVD has surfaced. There is no announced Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD edition of the 40th Anniversary release, which is the obvious gap given that the 35th Anniversary got a steelbook and that the theatrical return is being sold on a fresh 4K restoration. Shout! Factory has not said anything either way. If a higher-resolution edition is coming, it has not been dated.
