Back on August 8 we covered the 40th Anniversary DVD and said the obvious thing was missing. No Blu-ray. No 4K, and nothing dated. That gap is now closed.

The 4K Ultra HD steelbook of The Transformers: The Movie is live on Shout! Factory’s own storefront with a real pre-order button on it. Two discs, a 4K UHD and a Blu-ray. Catalogue number 1000863911, UPC 826663270624, Region A, rated PG. Shout has it at $39.99 and dates it November 17, 2026. Amazon has the same set at $49.98 (ASIN B0HDW8JN3Z, same date), so look at both before you commit.

Dolby Atmos, on a 1986 cartoon

Both discs carry a new Dolby Atmos mix, and the 4K disc adds Dolby Vision on top. If you were holding off on the 40th because a bare DVD was the only thing anybody had dated, this is your reason to stop holding off, and it is the upgrade we have been asking for ever since the 35th Anniversary steelbook. Vince DiCola’s score in Atmos is going to be worth the wait!

The line that made me sit up

Read down the disc two list and there it is: “Animated Coda (TBD) (2026)”.

When we wrote up the DVD, we noted that nothing in its product data mentioned the all-new post-credits chapter Hasbro and Fathom made for the theatrical return. On the evidence we had at the time, with nothing about that scene anywhere in the DVD’s spec sheet, it looked like a cinema exclusive and we said so. Now there is a brand new 2026 animated piece sitting on a home release, and Shout has not said what it is. The listing carries a literal TBD.

I am not going to tell you it is the Fathom scene. Nobody official has said so. But it is a 2026 animated extra, on the release that follows the theatrical run, and that is a lot of coincidence for one line of a spec sheet.

Disc two also has a 2026 reformatted “The Touch” video from Stan Bush. That is the same reworking the Celebration of Life concert was built around. The 2026 theatrical trailer is on there too.

The legacy package survives intact

Everything you would expect is here. The audio commentary with director Nelson Shin, story editor Flint Dille and star Susan Blu runs on both discs. So does ‘Til All Are One, the feature-length documentary (Dille, Gregg Berger, Susan Blu, Neil Ross, Dan Gilvezan, Stan Bush and Vince DiCola all turn up in it). You also get He’s Got The Touch with Stan Bush looking back, the archival featurettes, the feature-length animated storyboards, deleted scenes, and the trailers and TV spots.

One for the spec obsessives among us. Shout lists the DVD at 85 minutes and this set at 84, and we do not know why. Probably listing noise, but somebody was always going to ask.

About that cover

The art here is not the art that leaked in August. It has been revised to the same key art the DVD wears, with the 40 Years roundel added. Shout’s own image still has ART NOT FINAL stamped across the top of it. So treat the picture above as a placeholder for the packaging rather than a look at the finished steelbook. That is exactly what Shout is calling it.

Pre-orders are open now and the release lands November 17, 2026.
