McFarlane Toys has moved its biggest Transformers piece to date from convention display to retail. The 23 inch Optimus Prime head replica, item 14318, now has official product photography out in the wild, a $149.99 US retail price and an August 29, 2026 release date.
It is exactly what the name says. This is a head, not a torso bust, and at 23 inches tall on its nameplate base it is the oversized sibling to the 7 inch 1:3 scale busts of Optimus Prime, Megatron and Bumblebee that McFarlane revealed in December 2025. TFormers ties the piece back to the 1:1 scale prop replica McFarlane put on the stand at San Diego Comic-Con in July, so the working idea here is Optimus at life size rather than a shelf ornament.
The sculpt is the plain G1 animation model, not a movie or IDW reinterpretation: matte blue helmet, the vent slats up the crest, the silver faceplate and the two crystal blue optics. The base carries the Autobot sigil twice and the character name across the front.
Two numbers are worth separating before anyone quotes them. The US retail is $149.99. TFW2005 flagged the piece this morning off the Amazon Canada listing and converted its $194.27 CAD to $139.99 USD, which is a currency conversion rather than a second price. TFormers and the BigBadToyStore listing both put the US figure at $149.99, and that is the number to plan around.
The other thing worth saying plainly is that the retailer is ahead of the street date. BigBadToyStore’s listing was reading IN STOCK with an add to cart control at $149.99 when we loaded it this afternoon, while McFarlane’s stated release is still two weeks out on August 29. That is BBTS’s own status, read off the page today, and stock states on a piece this size can move within hours, so treat it as a snapshot rather than a promise.
It is also a big box. The shipping carton measures 38.1 by 50.8 by 57.84 cm at 7.77 kg, and BBTS flags it as an oversized item with its own shipping caveats.
McFarlane has been the quiet story in Transformers collectibles this year, and it has now landed a display piece at a price well under the third party head replicas that used to own this space.
