Super7 is running a Labor Day sale. The banner on its store reads “Buy 3 Get 1 Free On Almost All In-Stock Products!” and the sale page says “Now through Monday”, so it closes today. Three hundred and eleven products are in it, and the Transformers contribution is two t-shirts.
Super7’s catalogue was enumerated in full for this piece, all 2,918 products, and 130 of them are Transformers: ULTIMATES! Waves 1 through 5, ReAction Waves 1 through 8 with the Beast Wars run inside them, Super Cyborg, the $350 and $395 Super Shoguns, the Deluxe VHS boxes, Keshi Surprise blind bags, drinkware, puzzles and a rack of tees. A hundred and eight of those are figures.
Two of the hundred and thirty are in stock, and both are t-shirts: the Optimus Prime Surf Tee and the Poster tee, $30 each. Every figure, every Super Shogun, every puzzle and every mug reads sold out on Super7’s own product feed. The most recent Transformers listing on the store is that Poster tee, dated July 27. [1]
What that looks like next to the other three
We wrote this sale up for three other properties this afternoon. ThunderCats has thirty in-stock items in it. The Turtles have eighteen. G.I. Joe has fifteen, and both its ULTIMATES are sold out. Transformers has two, and neither is a figure.
Worth setting beside that: the newest Super7 Transformers product to surface anywhere was not on super7.com at all. The DX Deluxe VHS Optimus Prime and Megatron on Target pegs we covered on Saturday are in decos the store does not list. Two facts, not a pattern, and Super7 has said nothing about either.
Where the figures actually are, and they cost less than the sale would
BigBadToyStore has the ULTIMATES! line in stock at prices that have nothing to do with the Super7 sale. Read off the product pages this afternoon:
- Bludgeon, $24.75, against a $54.99 list. Add to cart live.
- Megatron, $27.50. Tarn, $30.24. Starscream (G1), $38.49. Soundwave (G1), $41.24.
- Wave 1 Set of 4 at $118.24, and the Wave 4 Set of 3 at $148.49.
Bludgeon is $24.75 at BigBadToyStore against Super7’s own $54.99 list, and the Labor Day sale cannot match that, because there is nothing in it to discount. [2]
So if you were waiting for a holiday weekend to fill a gap in the ULTIMATES! shelf, there is nothing here to fill it with, and the shelf that is filling gaps is somebody else’s. The Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus preorder we ran last month sold out on preorder and has not returned. Some of these figures left the store that way and some of them just stopped being restocked, and from a shopper’s side of the counter the two look identical.
[1] The counts come from Super7’s own product feed at super7.com/products.json rather than from
clicking through the collection pages. The feed reports the stock flag the store holds now; a
collection grid can serve a cached copy. The 130 figure counts anything whose title carries the
Transformers licence, including the Beast Wars sub-line and the apparel.
[2] A stock flag says there is no inventory. It does not say whether the run sold through, was pulled or was never reordered, and Super7 has not commented, so treat the sold-out state as the fact and the reason as unknown.
