Nobody at Super7 has said a word about either of these figures, and both of them are already on shelves.

On Friday evening TFW2005 published a first look at a DX Fallen Leader Optimus Prime, a grey seven inch figure in the VHS style box Super7 uses for its Deluxe Transformers releases, found at a Target and priced at thirty dollars [1]. The photographs came out of The Transformers G1 Fan Group on Facebook. They are the second set in a week to come from a fan photograph rather than from Super7; five days earlier the same site ran pictures from spawntoys209 on Instagram of a DX Reformatting Megatron, translucent purple, in the same packaging, hanging on a peg in a Target in Manteca, California, with a ReAction Unicron in movie accurate colours beside it.

The Deluxe line is not new and the box is not a one off. Super7 has been putting seven inch Transformers in a plastic VHS clamshell since 2024, with a volume number and an episode title on the front the way a multi episode tape was labelled: the Megatron release is Vol. 2, Megatron’s Master Plan, under a Super7 Deluxe diamond and a small DX Deluxe mark, and the spine carries the character name in the same blue box the tapes used. What is new is the deco. Super7’s own store lists three Transformers Deluxe VHS figures, Optimus Prime, Megatron and Soundwave, at forty dollars each, and there is no grey Optimus and no purple Megatron anywhere in the catalogue [2].

Both decos exist in Super7’s ULTIMATES line, fifteen dollars dearer. The grey battle damaged Optimus is the Fallen Leader deco from Wave 4, which Super7 sells at fifty five dollars and currently reads out of stock; the translucent purple Megatron is the Wave 5 figure Super7 calls Megatron [G1 Reformatting], caught partway through the change into Galvatron, also fifty five dollars and also out of stock. Both ULTIMATES pages read out of stock this morning, and both decos have now been photographed hanging on a Target peg.

Both come out of The Transformers: The Movie, which turns forty this year and has a 4K steelbook out in November: Optimus dying on the table in the Autobot medical bay, Megatron remade by Unicron into Galvatron. Super7 keeps going back to that film, and it has now put those two scenes into a second line at thirty dollars without announcing it.

Neither figure is listed on target.com

Search there and a Super7 Transformers Deluxe Megatron (VHS) does come up, at $28.99 against a stated $40.00. It is the standard grey Megatron rather than either figure anyone photographed, it is sold and shipped by a third party called MSSupplyUSA LLC, and the page says in as many words that the item is not sold in stores [3]. A search this morning turned up no Fallen Leader Optimus and no Reformatting Megatron at all. Target has been the landing spot for Transformers chase items all year, the Upper Deck 40th card set included, and it listed that one properly.

Listings often lag the pallet, so an empty search box this early proves little. The first comment under the TFW2005 post is a reader asking whether anyone has the DPCI yet, and without a DPCI there is nothing to look up, so finding one means checking the pegs yourself.

So: if a Target near you stocks Super7 at all, those pegs are worth a look this week, because thirty dollars for a seven inch figure in that packaging beats every price Super7 has set for one. If you would rather not drive anywhere, the Fallen Leader deco is on sale now in its original ULTIMATES form, bundled with Starscream and Soundwave at BigBadToyStore, which had three sets left this morning.
