The hour came from the leak, not from Funko. TFW2005 ran the first look on September 5, crediting the_pop_analist on Instagram and DisTrackers on X, and reported that the new Transformers Pops would go up on Wednesday at 9AM PT on Funko.com and other retailers. Wednesday arrived and the other retailers opened. Funko’s own store is the one of the three we checked where the set cannot be bought tonight: all five entries there read Coming Soon with a Notify Me button and no purchase control at all.
Entertainment Earth has all five taking orders at $14.99 each. BigBadToyStore has Optimus Prime and Mirage, also at $14.99, both with a live add to cart. Between them that is where the wave is on launch day, and Funko’s own product photography prints the collector number on every box.
The run is five consecutive Pops: Optimus Prime is #178, Grimlock #179, Prowl #180, Wheeljack #181 and Mirage #182. Prowl’s and Wheeljack’s numbers appear in neither retailer’s listing and were read off Funko’s box renders at full resolution. Those boxes carry the POP! RETRO TOYS lozenge next to a Transformers: The Movie logo and a 40 roundel; taken together that packaging dates the set to the 1986 film rather than to G1 in general. [1]
They are not all the same size, and only the retailer spec lines say so. Entertainment Earth puts Optimus Prime at roughly 5 1/2 inches, Grimlock and Mirage at about 4 1/2, and Prowl and Wheeljack at the standard 3 3/4. An oversized Pop usually carries an oversized price and this one does not, so the tall Optimus costs the same $14.99 as the two smallest figures in his own wave. [2]
Grimlock is in dinosaur mode in Funko’s render, grey and gold with the red Autobot badge on his chest, and he is the only one of the five that is not a robot standing up. He is the one we would put on the shelf first! Prowl comes in his police deco with POLICE printed along the door panel he wears as a wing, and Optimus leaps off a clear stand with his rifle out.
They disagree on when any of it arrives. Entertainment Earth estimates October 2026 on all five. BigBadToyStore estimates April 2027 on both of the ones it carries. Neither retailer calls its date a promise and both say the estimate can move, but six months apart is a wide gap between two listings for the same product, and an October figure lands inside the anniversary year while an April one does not. [3]
The fortieth has been busy this month between the 4K steelbook, the Target popcorn bucket and Super7’s blind box wave. This is the smallest of the lot and the easiest to say yes to.

[1]: Entertainment Earth titles Optimus, Grimlock and Mirage as The Transformers: The Movie and lists Prowl and Wheeljack as plain Retro Toys Transformers, while Funko’s own store calls all five 40th Anniversary. The box art is the tiebreaker. [2]: None of the five box fronts print a size, so the heights come from the Entertainment Earth spec lines rather than from Funko. [3]: Entertainment Earth’s page says a buyer is not charged until the item is ready to ship, and BigBadToyStore’s says no payment is due until the product is available to ship. Both were read this evening.
