Lamborghini Countach LP500S Fire Chief Car

Red Alert's alt mode is the same Lamborghini Countach LP500S that Sideswipe uses, with a roof-mounted light bar and a white and red fire-chief scheme. The 4.75 litre V12 and 375 horsepower are the same, and so is the absurdity: a supercar as an emergency response vehicle. The idea is not entirely invented. Several European fire and police services have genuinely operated supercars as high-speed response or organ-transport vehicles, and Italian police Lamborghinis are a real and long-running programme, though the Countach specifically was a Diaclone toy conceit rather than a documented service vehicle.

Red Alert is the Autobot security director, written as pathologically suspicious, with a bio that treats his paranoia as an occupational hazard rather than a joke. His voice actor Michael Chain has said he based the performance on Richard Nixon. He is paired constantly with Inferno, and his one substantial cartoon story, Auto Berserk, has his logic circuits damaged so badly he defects to Starscream.

The toy's lineage is worth stating precisely. The Diaclone New Countach LP500S became Sideswipe. Takara then retooled it with roof lights as the Diaclone New Countach LP500S Police Car. Hasbro redecoed that police version into Red Alert. The police deco was later honoured directly by Clamp Down, and the same body without lights produced Deep Cover, Tigertrack and Generation 2 Sideswipe.

Fan lore about these vehicles is unusually unreliable. Where a popular claim does not survive checking, it is recorded here rather than repeated.

• The Ford Escort RS1600i attribution. No G1 character has an Escort RS1600i alt mode. The Escort is not associated with Red Alert in any source; the nearest real Ford in the line is the Throttlebot Searchlight, usually identified as a Ford RS200. Treat the Escort claim as an error, not a variant.
